Get Active

Broadgate plays host to a week of sporting activities next week as Coventry Sports Week kicks off with a range of sporting opportunities.

Aimed at people of all ages and abilities, the event aims to get as many people as possible to turn up, join in and take part in a number of sports many of which are free.

From Tuesday 28 July to Friday 31 July, visitors to Broadgate will have the opportunity to try their hand at various sports including wheelchair basketball, judo, table tennis, golf and, looking ahead to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup, Rugby. They will be delivered by a combination of local sports groups and national sport governing bodies. Football will be taking place with Sky Blues in the Community and their speed shot challenge. There will even be a nine-metre high, fully supervised climbing wall (charges apply).

As well as taking the opportunity to try out some new sports, visitors to Broadgate will be able to pick up lots of information from local sports foundations and clubs, highlighting venues throughout Coventry they can visit to carry on with the activities on show.

Councillor Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member for Sport, said:

Coventry Sports Week is part of the city’s summer events programme and encourages local families and children to come into the city centre during the school holiday period and keep fit and healthy at the same time.

It’s great that a number of local sports clubs and bodies will also be on hand to promote their own venues and ideas for people to keep themselves busy over the summer and for the rest of the year as encouraging people to regularly take part in physical activity is really important for everyone’s health.
