International football is returning to the Ricoh Arena

International football is returning to the Ricoh Arena when England Under-21s take centre stage in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

The Young Lions will face Kazakhstan in their Group 9 qualifying match on Tuesday, October 13 at 7.45pm.

Tickets, priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and a £20 family ticket for two adults and two children, will go on sale on Wednesday, August 26 at 10am from www.ricoharena.com or on 024 7678 6411.

Coventry City season ticket holders will be able to take advantage of two-for-one tickets.

Gareth Southgate’s squad start their qualification with an away game in Norway on September 7 before heading to the Ricoh Arena for their first home match on the road to Poland where the Under-21 Championship will be held in 2017.

Only one match has been played in Group 9 so far with Norway heading the table after beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0.

The Ricoh Arena has hosted two England Under-21 matches – Everton’s Leighton Baines netted in a 1-0 win against Germany in the first leg of their European Under-21 Championship qualifier play-off in October 2006.

And there were plenty of goals when England Under-21s overcame Macedonia 6-3 in 2009 in a qualifying group game when Kieran Gibbs, Micah Richards, Andy Carroll (2) and Zavon Hines (2) were on target.

Andy Gibb, managing director of the Ricoh Arena, said this was a great opportunity for football fans to support England Under-21s in an important qualifier.

International fixtures always generate a special atmosphere and England Under-21s will be aiming to secure their third successive victory at the Ricoh Arena

There are plenty of talented players in Gareth Southgate’s squad and this is the perfect opportunity for football followers from across the Midlands to come and see the Young Lions in action in Coventry.

The next generation of exciting England players will be in action and we hope as many people as possible will come along and make plenty of noise.

Cllr Abdul Khan, cabinet member for sport at Coventry City Council, said:

We are delighted that the Ricoh Arena is going to be hosting the England Under-21 match against Kazakhstan. This is great news for the city and a great opportunity for local people to watch an international match on their doorstep. We are only one year in to delivering the City’s Sports Strategy and welcoming this international match shows that ours and our partners’ efforts to attract major sporting events to Coventry is paying off.

Speaking about the game, head coach Southgate said:

It’s a great opportunity to take the junior national teams to a Football League ground.

It’s a fantastic stadium and they create a really good atmosphere, so hopefully we can contribute to that with a good performance in October

Hopefully, the squad that we’ll be naming over the next couple of months will be an exciting one for people to come and watch.

And it’s a chance for those fans who don’t get to see us play at Wembley to see an England side in action at their home ground.

There are also group bookings for 15 people or more (no age restrictions and bookable in advance only) priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for concessions.

Disabled supporters will pay the full price according to their age category with their carer going free and for Charter Standard Clubs there are up to 25 complimentary tickets available on proof of membership with any additional uptake at the group rate.
